Lena York Holyfield, 95 of Haw River passed away peacefully surrounded by her family
on Friday, September 27, 2019 at her residence following 9 months of declining health. She was a homemaker and the wife of Lum Hardin Holyfield, deceased and the mother of John Wade Holyfield also deceased. She was the daughter of Wade and Louannie York of Liberty, both deceased.
She is survived by two daughters, Carlene H. Brown and husband Odiss of Liberty and Treva H. Gerner and husband Bob of Burlington. Five Grandchildren, Larry Brown of Liberty, Ronald Lee Brown and wife Tina of Liberty, Angie Brown Melton and husband Joe of Liberty. David Holyfield and Terry Holyfield both of Gibsonville. One Brother, Henry York of Sophia, NC and three sisters, Clatie Patterson of Liberty, Dorothy Boggs of Liberty and Kathleen Shaw of Staley. Six nieces and six nephews. Six great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren and 1 step great great grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Maggie Williamson and Lucy Jane York. Three brothers, Charlie “Sarge” York, Edgar York, and Jimmy York. Two nieces and one nephew and one great granddaughter.
A funeral service will be Sunday, September 29, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham. Officiating will be Hospice Chaplain Gail Smith. Burial will follow in Graham Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Suzanna, Mitzi, Davanea, Caroline, Gail, Vergie and others for their compassionate care of Lena during her illness.
