Leonard Wesley Dodson

Leonard Wesley Dodson, 84, passed away at Duke University Hospital on Wednesday, January 20, 2021.

A native of Orange County, he was the last surviving child of the eleven born to the late Walter Lee and Calladonia Atkinson Dodson.  He is survived by his wife, Myra Swinney Dodson, son Tony L. Dodson and wife Sandi of Gainesville, Georgia; daughter, Teresa D. Pleasants of Durham, and five grandchildren who were his reasons for living: Kellie L. Dixon, Casey N. Pleasants, Joshua D. Pleasants, Brandon L. Pleasants, and Katie M. Dodson.

Leonard wore many hats in, this life. He was the original shade tree mechanic, traveled for several years in commercial construction building hospitals, banks and schools across North Carolina.  He began mechanicing at the Burlington Chevrolet dealership in the 1960’s before opening his own business, Dodson’s Auto Service.  Retiring from that endeavor in the mid 80’s, he created and developed Clover Creek Mobile Home Village. Retiring once again, in the early 2000’s, he dabbled in land development and excavation. He was always happiest working outdoors.  His last retirement allowed time for his real passions, kids and cars. This allowed plenty of time for the proper spoiling of grandchildren, and continuing his lifelong hobby of restoring vintage cars from the frame out. 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday January 28, 2021 at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Scott London officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 PM on Wednesday January 27, 2021 at McClure Funeral Home in Graham.
