Lori Ann Hurst, 59 of Mebane, NC died on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. Lori was born in New Britain, CT and raised in Plainville, CT. She graduated from Plainville High School and then from Saint Joseph’s College in West Hartford, CT with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She moved with her family to North Carolina in 1994. Lori started her career working as a Registered Nurse at Bristol Hospital and then spent many years working as a geriatric nurse in convalescent homes. She loved working with older patients and she found her true calling for nursing as a Hospice nurse in North Carolina.
Lori loved being a mother and was proud of all the accomplishments of her children, Kaitlyn, Emily and Nicholas. She was very excited to become a grandmother two years ago. Lori loved animals and always had pets living with her for her entire life. Lori loved the beach and enjoyed nothing more than the times she took her children for vacation at the beach. Lori was crazy about UConn Mens' and Women’s basketball and never missed watching a game. She was an avid crocheter and made beautiful blankets for everyone she was close to. She later made hats and lap blankets to be donated to Hospice patients.
Lori was pre-deceased by her mother Patricia Kratka and her grandmother Gertrude Foley, both of whom she loved with all her heart. Surviving are her loving children Kaitlyn Hurst and her husband Scott, Emily Hurst and her partner Tyler and Nicholas Hurst and his partner Autumn, as well as her beloved grandchildren Zander Evans and Holden Hurst. She is also survived by her father Joseph Kratka and her brother Scott Kratka and his wife Lisa Kratka and their children and her Godmother Deborah Benzi.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from12:00 to 2:00pm at McClure Funeral Service in Mebane. A funeral service will follow at McClure Funeral Chapel in Mebane.
