MEBANE – Mary Ellen (Dickie) Rumppe, 80, passed away at Duke University Hospital on Thursday, October 22, 2020. Mary was born in Goodman, Wisconsin on August 29, 1940 to the late Dale and Doris (McGregor) Dickie. After graduating from Goodman High School in 1958, Mary attended school earning a Licensed Practical Nursing license. Mary worked briefly for Beloit Memorial Hospital in Beloit, WI until she met and married Robert Rumppe in January 1962. Following their marriage, they started a family and Mary chose to stay home and devote her life to her family.
She took pride in her family and was known for her generosity and loyalty to her loved ones. She always had a smile, enjoyed laughing and had a fierce sense of humor. When she wasn't spending time with her family, especially spoiling the grandchildren and supporting all of their activities, she enjoyed shopping, especially long strolls through the aisles at Walmart, feeding the large catfish in her pond, sending cards and notes to family and friends and enjoying a Dairy Queen treat at any time of the day.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 54 years, Robert. She is survived by two daughters, Pamela Winstead and husband David and Sharon Amos and husband Gary both of Mebane along with four grandchildren, Jonathan Stutts and wife Tori of Graham, Rachel (Stutts) McAdoo and husband Tyler of Burlington, David and Brandon Winstead of Mebane, and three great-grandchildren, Tucker Lee and Penelope Stutts and Jaxton McAdoo. She is also survived by a brother Robert and wife Linda of Green Bay, Wisconsin along with multiple nieces and nephews. The family will have a graveside visitation from 1:00-1:30 p.m. followed by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. to celebrate her life on Monday, October 26th at Mebane Memorial Gardens, 6914 E Washington St. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mcclurefuneralservice.net
