Mossie (Jarrell) Dodson

Mrs. Mossie Miranda Jarrell Dodson passed away peacefully on 10-25-2020  at 6:17 AM at Hospice Home of Burlington. She was born in Alamance County on February 21, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Simon and Ollie B. Jarrell.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Signora Cecilia  Jarrell,  Alton Lorraine Jarrell Ingold; her daughters, Jackie Marie Dodson Kimrey and Miranda Jane Dodson and her beloved husband of 69 years Jack W. Dodson. She is survived by a daughter, Hilda Lee Dodson Burch of Raleigh, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews and close friends.

Mossie spent her life serving her family as a homemaker and partner to her husband, Jack. In her “retirement” years, she served her community as a dispatcher for the Graham Police Department for many years.

She loved her Lord, her family and her church. Although “Aunt Mossie” as she was affectionately known to many suffered ill health in the last few years, she never lost her fierce determination to live on her own terms and her faith never wandered. Her trust in Her Lord and her ability to face any obstacle with humor and faith was an inspiration to all who knew her.

The family would like to acknowledge those whose love, assistance and encouragement was invaluable in her last few years. Mr. and Mrs. Roy (Butch) Taylor, Mrs. Louise Strauss, Mrs. Nancy Dodson and Ann Bordeaux whose selfless aid never wavered. Her caretakers Amelia Kigenyi and Rose Riley whose devoted care allowed Mossie to remain in her home as long as she was able.

Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday October 29, 2020 at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham with Pastors David Jackson and her nephew, Pastor Richard Dodson officiating. The burial will follow in Graham Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until service time prior to the service at McClure Funeral Service in Graham.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the church Mossie loved and attended as long as she was able, Bethel Baptist Church, 238 Dixon Rd. Graham, NC 27253.
