Nathaniel (Nat) Thompson Blackwood

Nathaniel (Nat) Thompson Blackwood, 91, of Mebane, NC passed away after a period of declining health on Friday, August 27, 2021 at The Hospice Home of Burlington.  After graduating from Graham High School in 1948, Nat managed several movie theaters before joining the Army in 1951 where he spent 2 years in Germany as a Specialist with the 370th Engineer Heavy Equipment Company. Beginning in 1954, Nat began his lifelong professional career with Bell Labs/AT&T until his retirement in 1989.

Nat was married to Colleen Kimbrough Blackwood for 61 years, and had two daughters, Dawn (& Rob) Surles of Mebane, and Belinda Blackwood of Cary, NC.  Nat is preceded in death by his parents, William W. Blackwood and Callie Walker Blackwood, along with his sister, Ernestine Andrews, and brother, Bernice Blackwood, and nephew Danny Blackwood.    He is also survived by three nephews, Dennis Blackwood of Mebane, NC, Doug Blackwood of Delaware, Jimmy Andrews of Winston-Salem, NC, and one niece, Denene Blackwood of Newport, NC.

A private family burial was held at Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington, NC where Nat is interred.  Memorials may be made to AuthoraCare Hospice, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC. 27215, or a charity of your choice.
