Thomas Carlton ‘Tommy” Matkins, 81 of Graham, NC passed away on Tuesday May 12, 2020 at ARMC in Burlington. A native of Alamance Co. NC, he was the son of the late Levi Carlton and Artie Faucette Matkins and the husband of the late Blenda Pegram Matkins. Tommy was retired from Southerland Mills with many years of service. Tommy was an avid fisherman and he enjoyed spending time outdoors whether he was mowing yards, planting flowers, or working in his vegetable garden, he always had a smile on his face. Tommy was known for being a simple man, always just being himself. One of the biggest joys Tommy received in his life was his willingness to help others and put others needs above his own. Tommy was a proud member of The People’s Church in Mebane where he loved his Church and Church family. Survivors include his son, James S. Matkins and wife Suzanne; his sister, Artie “Marie” M. Barahona; his loving grandsons, Carlton, Robert, Steven, Andrew and Emanuel Matkins; and his 3 great grandchildren; his loving daughter in laws, Gail C. Matkins and Denise C. Matkins; his special friend, Tina; his buddies Mark and Andy and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Rosie Overcash and Ruby Welch and his loving sons, Howard Matkins and Carlton “Corky” Matkins. Due to the COVID-19 crisis services will be held at a late date at the People’s Church in Mebane. The family of Mr. Matkins would like to extend a special Thank You to the staff of ARMC and the ICU Nurses for their love and care during this difficult time.
