Wilbur Calvin Pruitt

Wilbur Calvin Pruitt, 79 of Graham passed away Monday, January 11, 2021 at his residence. Wilbur was born in Spartanburg, SC to James A. and Ruth Edmonds Pruitt both deceased. He majored in chemistry at Wofford College, Spartanburg, SC and worked as a chemist at Burlington Industries for 35 years before retiring. Wilbur was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Mebane where he has served on the financial committee, began children’s church, youth chairperson for four years, and was assistant first grade Sunday School teacher for 17 years.  He also served his country proudly in the US Army.

He enjoyed gardening, yardwork and was an avid golfer playing many US courses as well as golfing tour through Ireland, Scotland and England. He also enjoyed touring France, Italy, Mexico and Canada as well as many cruises with his brother-in-law and wife. He enjoyed beach trips with the Culbreths and going on trips to Wyndham Resorts with his brother and wife.

Wilbur is survived by: his wife, Barbara Culbreth Pruitt of the home whom he married in 1968. Daughters, Diana Evans (Doug), Lisa McAlister, and Jennifer Harrison (Gary). Son: Stephen Pruitt. Grandchildren, Delanie, LeAnn, Alex (Mary Grace), Shane, Hunter, and Houston. Brother, Jerry Pruitt (Sandra), and lots of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Wilbur was preceded in death by his: sisters, Evelyn Toney, Joy Jackson, and Rosa Small. Brothers, Carroll Pruitt, Donald Pruitt, and Jimmy Pruitt.

His pride and joy was his favorite big granddaughter Delanie and little granddaughter LeAnn, who could not enter the house without a big hug.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be Monday, January 18, 2021 at 1:00 PM in Alamance Memorial Park. Officiating will be Rev. Sammy Ballard. Public viewing will be on Sunday from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM at McClure Funeral Home in Graham.
