Amos Fisher Obituary

GRAHAM, NC—Amos L. Fisher died peacefully on April 6, 2024. The son of Sallie and Arthur Fisher, Amos was born and raised in Franklin County, Virginia, and graduated from Virginia Tech in 1957. He served as an Army officer (1957-60) before continuing his engineering career as a civilian contractor with Western Electric/AT&T until 1989. Amos was married to the late Alison Stuart Fisher from 1959 until her death of cancer in 1996. In 2005, he married Vicky Frye, widow of the late Sheriff Richard L. Frye. He adored and doted on Vicky for the rest of his life. With Vicky, Amos delighted in his new role as "Gramps" alongside "Nana," as they spoiled grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and their beloved dog Kiki. Following complications from COVID-19 and diabetes, Amos was not one to complain. He kept his smile and positive demeanor, greeting visitors with questions about their current interests or sharing facts from a mind at work. He will be remembered for his curiosity, his playful sense of humor, and his total love for Vicky, who, he allowed, was always right.

In addition to his parents and first wife Alison, Amos was predeceased by a sister, Helen Bratton. He is survived by his devoted wife, Vicky; her children (Margie Frye and Steve Schier, Martha and Ron Calhoun, and Danny and Susan Frye); their families (Ashley and Josh Coe and daughter Lennon; Brandon and Laura Creech; Nathan and Amanda Schier and sons Jackson and Jacob; Elizabeth Schier and son and daughter Emerson and Raina Strickland; Jackson Calhoun; and Sebastian, Hattie, and Gigi Frye); many nieces and nephews; and dear friend Marcelino Ponce.

The family would like to thank the staff at Compass Healthcare and Rehab (Hawfields) and AuthoraCare Collective for their compassionate care. Amos’s wish was that any gifts in his memory be made to the Duke Cancer Institute or the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday April 22, 2024 at Emmanual United Methodist Church, 2331 Lavista Drive, Burlington.
