John Richard Harlow, aged 72, passed peacefully on March 10, 2024, at home in Troy, Alabama. He was born on October 8, 1951, in Weldon, North Carolina.
John was preceded in death by his father, Suiter Lindbergh Harlow and son, Jon Christian Harlow.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rebecca May Harlow; son, Stephen Craig Harlow; mother, Rena Walker Harlow; brothers: Robert Harlow, Lindbergh Harlow (Gloria); and sister, Brenda Jones (Gregory).
John grew up in Weldon, North Carolina and graduated from Weldon High School. Drafted during the Vietnam era, John served the military for 23 years. He served the military in various bases in the U.S. and 2 foreign countries with his family. During his time in the military, he earned both bachelors and masters degrees. He graduated from Troy State University ROTC program and Northern Montana College.
John was devoted to his wife and sons. John enjoyed reading, woodworking and especially enjoyed travelling.
He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Troy, Alabama.
Graveside services for Mr. Harlow will be held 11:30 AM on Friday March 15, 2024 at Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Pittsboro, North Carolina. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM prior to the service on Friday at McClure Funeral Service in Graham, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to missions at First Baptist Church in Troy, AL or missions at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Pittsboro, NC.
